In Germany, it's illegal to publish or display the Hakenkreuz swastika symbol except for scholarly purposes. As model-making can't definitively be classed as a scholarly pursuit, model kits likely aren't exempted from the law. So, if Revell or Airfix were to print sheets with swastikas, they couldn't sell those kits in Germany, which is a large market, unless they printed separate sheets just for kits sold in German stores.Benedict Edwardshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16279494265569632237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3515676111354157450.post-59951912807775581672016-04-03T23:24:01.703+01:002016-04-03T23:24:01.703+01:00Thanks for the feedback people. I'm hoping he'll help me with the decals!

The last plane I built - and indeed the only one since my cack-handed childhood attempts, many, many moons ago - was a Hasegawa Eggplane. I bought it second-hand, at an air show show at Duxford. Heaven knows how old the kit/decals were. They just crumbled when I tried to apply them! I did manage to get the most important ones on to the model, just... but it wasn't easy!

Hopefully these newer ones will be easier? But I think I might need to master the arts of using that floor polish trick, and also the stuff that makes decals follow the surface of the model.

There's always so much to learn and improve on!Seb Palmerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02825706166433888211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3515676111354157450.post-22487532962834916572016-04-03T23:16:59.103+01:002016-04-03T23:16:59.103+01:00Thanks for the feedback. another very plausible so...Thanks for the feedback. another very plausible sounding reason!Seb Palmerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02825706166433888211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3515676111354157450.post-36724349600337079692016-04-03T23:15:34.121+01:002016-04-03T23:15:34.121+01:00Thanks Patrick, that does make sense. Thanks Patrick, that does make sense.Seb Palmerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02825706166433888211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3515676111354157450.post-53372888489233960932016-04-03T22:24:09.928+01:002016-04-03T22:24:09.928+01:00The separate red dot for the RAF roundel is actual...The separate red dot for the RAF roundel is actually a fairly common trend I've seen among aftermarket decal makers. If I understand correctly the idea being that by putting the red dot over a white background it gives a more vibrant shade of red than having it over a (usually) darker base color.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02584053667091921197noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3515676111354157450.post-35528846425293085382016-04-03T22:21:25.218+01:002016-04-03T22:21:25.218+01:00I think the reason the central red dot for the rou...I think the reason the central red dot for the roundel is separate has to do with the difficulty of printing a perfectly registered decal. I've had many kits where the decals were out of register and it's especially noticeable where you have concentric circles. I'd much rather have the control of placing the central dot myself than trying to deal with a wonky decal that would probably need replacing. Sure, it's an extra step but the human eye is remarkably good at being able to center things.Patrick Lewishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06535435428480781851noreply@blogger.com
